Marlon Jackson, CEO of My Taxx Office, has announced that his tax office is now accepting clients for the 2018 tax filing season.
The IRS is once again open for business as of January 28, and most refunds will start coming out mid-February.
Individuals can expect a few key changes to the tax laws this year. The standard deduction for single taxpayers who don’t itemize deductions has doubled to $12,000; and the standard deduction for couples filing jointly has jumped to $24,000. Likewise, the Child Tax Credit has doubled.
However, certain tax deductions are disappearing, including the personal exemption, which could disproportionately affect larger families.
While most major deductions remain in place, the removal of Obamacare penalties as well as higher standard deductions render itemizing not worthwhile for millions of households. Tax deductions that are no longer available include casualty and theft losses (except those attributable to a federally declared disaster); unreimbursed employee expenses; tax preparation expenses; other miscellaneous expenses previously subject to the 2% AGI cap; and employer-subsidized parking and transportation reimbursements.
Marlon Jackson believes that families in underserved communities deserve to experience the benefits of a strong financial and tax strategy. He welcomes new clients who want to protect their money and their future. Mr. Jackson says, “It is my dream to spread the good news about affordable and comprehensive tax preparation for people who share our cultural experience.”
