The latest in his line of book releases, ‘Reading Kids: Secret tips behind children behaviour’ is the culmination of Pawel’s own personal experiences coaching youth footballers for over 10 years, and his Masters degree at Warsaw’s Physical Education Academy.
Tackling questions posed by coaches and parents alike, Pawel’s new book shines a spotlight on children’s behaviour. When they are acting in a way that seems challenging, Pawel asks the ready to think – Why? What is motivating them to act this way?
“We don’t need to exclude difficult children but find out what motivates them and look at the problems and solutions.“
Asking the reader to think like the child, and not the adult, Pawel implores us not to label children so quickly. He believes this is detrimental to their behaviour and development as both players and people.
“It’s easy for us to label children: ‘he’s the naughty one, she’s the loud one,’ etc, but it doesn’t need to be like that,” he says.
By offering up a book full of practical solutions to challenging behaviour, the reader is forced to reconsider how they communicate with children, and ultimately, gains a deeper insight into the minds of youth players.
“If you want a book that gives formulaic football drills and session plans, this book is not for you. If you want a book that challenges you to grow as a coach and better respond to the needs of the individual children you coach, then this book is for you,” one reviewer said.
Poor coaching, through lack of understanding or communication sadly leads to children falling out of love with the game. Pawel aims through this book to show coaches how to reignite their players passion for football, with one reader leaving the following glowing review.
“Reading Kids is such an important book. It challenges the coach to put the person before the player, to experience football coaching from the perspective of the child not the adult, and to fundamentally rethink what it is we should be doing as coaches.”
