CAMPUS RENOVATIONS IN CHULA VISTA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT BOOST PRIDE IN SCHOOL COMMUNITIES

Modern updates to Montgomery Elementary School done in the Summer of 2018 bring a clean and contemporary feel to the school.

In November of 2012, voters approved Proposition E with nearly 69% approval to allow the Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) to make some much needed renovations to some of the district’s campuses most in need. As a result, students at Harborside, John J. Montgomery and Karl H. Kellogg Elementary Schools were all welcomed to new, modernized construction at their schools in the beginning of this school year in September. The bond-funded improvements included electrical upgrades, heating and air conditioning, and more easily accessible WiFi.

Board of Education member Laurie K. Humphrey and President Leslie Ray Bunker both have long histories tied to CVESD, so seeing modernizations take place in schools they taught at and were so closely involved in for years was exciting to them. Both saw how the improvements at the three most recently modernized schools have carried positivity into the communities they serve and benefited many students and families. To add to that sentiment, Harborside Principal, Lisa Forehand, said, “Students were so excited to come back to their school and see the classrooms, new desks and furniture… To know it was for them, that was really special. I am grateful to be at Harborside to be part of this modernization.”

Proposition E encompasses renovations for 31 schools in Chula Vista Elementary School District. Harborside, Kellogg, and Montgomery each received makeovers of about $12 million in construction costs and were completely transformed. The modernization of those schools and six others from 2014 to 2015 has created a more welcoming environment that is conducive to teaching and learning and has also given students a boost in pride in their schools and communities.
