Singapore-based company, AEvice, has developed and introduced a revolutionary new device called AireSone Junior. The new product is a tiny electronic stethoscope that can be used in a variety of ways to help parents monitor their kid’s heart rates, sleep quality, and breathing.
AEvice was specifically designed for children who suffer from respiratory illnesses such as asthma, pneumonia, and sleep apnea asthmatic children. This innovative device is capable of analyzing acoustic respiratory signals, giving asthmatics early warning before an attack occurs.
Asthma affects 339 million people globally and according to the latest WHO estimates, released in December 2016, there were 383 000 deaths due to asthma in 2015, many of which are preventable.
Asthma symptoms are not specific. Diagnosis is heavily dependent on a patent’s detailed clinical history, which can be prone to recall bias. Patents are unable to pick up the early symptoms of an asthma attack until it is fully developed, delaying treatment and resulting in emergency medical attention. Without an objective measurement, doctors are unable to track the efficacy of asthma medication on their patents.
The device is designed for children aged 3 and above and monitors and displays various statistics through charts.
The device is attached to a child’s chest at night and listens to their breathing. An algorithm can process the audio signal, measuring the respiratory rate, heart rate, and sleep cycle, and the device notifies parents when warning signs in their child’s vitals are detected.
The data are readable by parents on a smart device, and the device can provide alerts, such as when a child is suffering an asthmatic episode, allowing parents to intervene in time. The app also allows parents to generate reports that can be shared with clinicians or caregivers, to keep everyone up to date on how the child is doing. The company has aimed to produce a product that can give parents peace of mind during the night, knowing that their child’s vital signs are being monitored.
Produced in three character designs with their very own backstories of overcoming their health issues, Bobo the Bear, Ollie the Owl, and Fitto the Frog, hope to make AireSone Junior an interactive experience between parents and their children.
