Rosa Arnadottir has launched an IndieGoGo campaign that aims to raise the capital needed to bring Icelandic skyr to the Austin, Texas, area through a new Dairy Bar called Tiny Iceland.
Icelandic skyr has been enjoyed by Vikings for hundreds of years and is known for its health benefits. Skyr contains an average of 11 grams of protein per 3.6 ounces, and it’s also rich in calcium. Skyr is a popular high protein breakfast, but it’s also enjoyed as a healthy dessert, as well as a healthy snack in between meals. Research shows that eating Skyr daily results in a lower overall calorie intake thanks to its high protein content.
Skyr is enjoyed by people of all ages, from six months of age and up. Athletes, people watching their weight, and anyone wanting a sweet treat can enjoy the varieties of skyr.
Arnadottir is aiming to raise $100,000 to bring to life her concept for a skyr shop. The name of the shop will be Tiny Iceland, and she’s using an IndieGoGo campaign to raise awareness and capital. $50,000 of the funds raised will be used to secure a retail space; $30,000 will go towards equipment and furniture, and $20,000 will be used as working capital for the first month of business.
For those who back Tiny Iceland, sweet perks await; backers can receive free ice cream servings, gift certificates, punch cards, and more in exchange for their pledges.
According to Arnadottir, Tiny Iceland will be an exceptional addition to an already health-conscious city. “It brings a great health benefit to the city of Austin, which is very much a health involved city. It will be a very hip and fun place to come to, giving you a little bit of the Icelandic vibe. And last, but not least, a family friendly place to come to,” said Arnadottir.
