Multicultural Children\u2019s Books “The Magical Day” and “Home:Casa” Share the Spirit of Giving, Diversity and Joy This Holiday Season<\/div>\n

MILLIS, MA – Sandra Elaine Scott, Massachusetts author and international speaker, joins the 2018 Barnes & Noble Holiday Book Drive to help bring the joy of the holiday season to children throughout Massachusetts. <\/span><\/p>\n

Customers who want to help build a child’s library, and deepen the diversity within it, can purchase Scott’s award-winning multicultural book “<\/span>The Magical Day<\/span><\/a>” for donation at the Burlington location, <\/span>98 Middlesex Turnpike, <\/span>and Framingham store, 1 Worcester Road, <\/span>between November 1 and January 1. All books donated through the book drive will go directly to local children from birth to age 12 through the Cradles to Crayons’ network. <\/span><\/p>\n

“The Magical Day,” <\/span>Scott’s first children’s book, is a story about young Donovan’s adventures exploring a new environment and meeting inspiring everyday citizens when he visits the United States. Scott shares positive lessons, reinforces culturally appropriate messages and helps young readers feel proud of who they are by drawing on her own bicultural heritage and love for diversity. Barnes & Noble customers purchased more than 100 copies of the book for donation last year, helping Scott outsell Pete Souza’s bestselling book “Obama: An Intimate Portrait” at the Burlington store for a week during the 2017 book drive.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I love to share the joys of reading and writing with children,” said Scott. “The need for multicultural and diverse books is more important than ever. I want all children to have faith in themselves and feel empowered to create their own magical days.”<\/span><\/p>\n

To celebrate the publication of her new bilingual children’s book, “<\/span>Home: Casa<\/span><\/a>,” Scott will also host a book signing at the Burlington store on December 9, 1 to 3 p.m. This heartwarming story of Mia, her grandmother Lita Sofia and the mischievous Alpaca Coco reminds readers home is where the heart is. <\/span><\/p>\n

Named Most Inspirational Youth Chapter Book by Latino Literacy Now at the 2016 International Latino Book Awards<\/span>, <\/span><\/em>Massachusetts and California school districts are also sharing “The Magical Day” with students and teachers as a complement to the Common Core Social Studies Curriculum.<\/span><\/p>\n
