<\/p>\nDo you know, there are a group of mysterious people in China who have the power more than the magicians. They convert one thread into the landscape patterns on your clothes, recall your deepest memory of New Year with one carving knife and a piece of wood. One cup of earth turns alive with their touch to review the glory buried inside, one stalk of brown grass dances on their fingertips and you find yourself looking at the exquisite of old Shanghai. The Monkey King and Bruce Li are not the only Chinese super heroes known to the world. We want the world to know another group of super heroes who protect traditional Chinese culture with the magic on their fingertips, and know more about the precious cultures they are heartily protecting. <\/p>\n

Every country holds its unique traditional culture while among which, the traditional craft is one gem shining on top of the piles. It takes thousands of years to mature the technique however a blink for its demolish and devastation if the skills could not be inherited. This is what we are suffering now for the Chinese traditional crafts: the lack of skilful traditional craft person and the lack of innovation for traditional craft skills. Besides the efforts of supporting and rescuing the traditional cultures from the official channels, it’s more important that the industry realizes the risk and strives on self-rescue: to establish the correct development view of arts and crafts; to innovate the themes and forms; to develop multi-level and diversified markets; to implement different models of talents training; to cultivate awareness of brand and intelligent protection. <\/p>\n
In order to allow more people in love with Chinese cultures discovering the beauty of the traditional crafts, to help more countries broadcasting and demonstrating their own cultures, we create Shanghai International Hobbycraft Expo. The purpose of building this platform is to promote the cooperation and international communication between traditional crafts and corporate brands, to introduce traditional crafts into the modern life and trigger a combination, and to provide a stage of creative transformation and innovative development for intangible cultural heritage. <\/p>\n

Shanghai International Hobbycraft Expo was initiated in 2015. In an area of 6,000 sqm, the 3-day expo gathered 78 exhibitors around the world and attracted 40,000 visitors. With this success, the 2nd Expo in 2016 enlarged the scale into an area of 12,000 sqm, 157 exhibitors, and over 60,000 visitors. In 2017, the number of the total visitors reached 85,000. 259 domestic and international exhibitors from Spain, Africa, Japan, Uruguay and other countries presented over 50 professional events and courses, won unanimous praises from exhibitors and visitors. <\/p>\n

The 4th Shanghai International Hobbycraft Expo 2018 is themed as “Landing on Planet Hobbycraft, encountering the splendour of Intangible cultural heritage, and welcome the happiness of life”. Covering an area of 12,000 sqm and displayed by exhibitors from 15 countries such as Africa, Japan, France, and Britain, here are 5 highlights tailored for this year’s Expo: <\/p>\n
Highlight No.1 – experience craft courses to enlighten your life. Pick and experience your own craft course. We present not only courses designed by exhibitors and postgraduates from Shanghai University, Fine Art College, but master courses personally displayed by intangible cultural heritage inheritors as well. Come and indulge yourself into the happiness from creating. <\/p>\n

Highlight No.2 – Flash-mob TED Talks of Habbycraft. Short but tense, simple but incisive, you have 70 choices of speeches and talks from craft geniuses, intangible cultural heritage inheritors, and modern designers to popularizing craft knowledges in the fast-pace life. <\/p>\n
Highlight No.3 – Four Plates of “My power to empower intangible cultural heritage”. There are four major plates focusing on intangible cultural heritage to display the essence of traditional craft skills and the rebirth of classic culture in modern life : [Intangible cultural Heritage + modern design], an rejuvenate of traditional classic in modern life; [Intangible cultural Heritage + culture poverty alleviation], cooperate and discover the power of culture; [Intangible cultural Heritage + Hai-pai Shanghai style Life], the charming of Shanghai-style East & West Culture integration; [Intangible cultural Heritage + research achievements], presentations of selected pieces from intangible culture heritage studies in universities. <\/p>\n

Highlight No.5 – International craft Brands China Premieres. International craft brands such as “create your style”, the hand crafts with Austria crystal, and House of Craft, the British boxed craft kits expert, will launch their China Premiere during the Expo. Other world-famous products launching such as colour paint series from British fine art products manufacturer and Royal Warrant holder Winsor & Newton, luxury gold embroidery threads from DMC, France, Ginza gold foil from Japan, and Miyuki and Toho beads are on the schedule as well. <\/p>\n
