But, it’s rare to find stories of success, where the old and new India meet in a way that’s not possible in almost any country in the world. Decades ago, it was Steve Jobs, who came to India for enlightenment, and when he went back, he wore orange robes, shaved his head and walked barefoot. But, how often do we hear the story the other way round?<\/p>\n

A successful business tech startup, with numbers upwards of USD 100,000 a year, decides to sell everything o\ufb00, and renounce the world, to become a monk!<\/em><\/p>\n

That’s the story of India’s Kanhaiya Lal, a man who never attended college, did odd jobs like cooking at PG’s and taking the role of a care taker, taught himself how to code using a dusty old computer that he purchased second hand and went on to single handedly found a company, O\ufb03ceOnCloud.com<\/a> that serves 100+ companies in India and has a user base of 100,000 and counting. It all started in 2016, when he developed a Cloud based O\ufb03ce Management system, which he at first o\ufb00ered free to all of its users for nearly 2 years, until 2018, when he started charging for the same. Many of the companies that were using the system for free, came onboard, and it kickstarted a business that has grown leaps and bounds since then, amassing 100,000+ users till date. With around 90K Visitors per month and millions of page views in the past year (2018), Kanhaiya has proven the potential of his business beyond any doubts.<\/p>\n

A man from the holy state of Uttarakhand, he actually always had a spiritual bent of mind, however, he wanted to do something along the lines of greats like Jobs and Zuckerberg.<\/p>\n

But then, things took a dramatic turn, when his father expired in 2018, which left a deep desire in him to finally seek the spiritual, instead of working for the material world his entire life like his father. Soon he decided he had had enough of the business world, and that now he would like to seek inner peace and tranquility rather than chasing money for the sake of money. He decided he would sell o\ufb00 his business to someone who can better handle it and take it to the potential it deserves while simultaneously getting a fair price for his business which would, in turn, be utilised to donate to charities & get his basic needs taken care of, for the rest of his life. He’s decided to shift to an unknown part of the Himalayas, with a spiritual guru, who he won’t name for obvious reasons, and spend the rest of his life in search of God.<\/p>\n

“When I started out in this business, I knew very little about the world of startups, but slowly with sheer hardworking, commitment and unwavering passion, I learned the process. Because I was giving all of the software stu\ufb00 for free, I had to see days, when I wouldn’t have anything to eat, & I was forced to do odd jobs, just to get my basic needs taken care of.”<\/p>\n

The startup is going for a sale in the next few days. As of this date, he’s already left his o\ufb03cial duties and delegated it to some of his employees, and is enjoying his new life as a monk. He travels barefoot, wears the typical monk attire and meditates 8 hours a day.<\/em><\/p>\n
