A tale based on lies, bullying and unprecedented client deception has finally started to make rounds in New Zealand media – but with great delay, as hundreds have lost their money and peace of mind owing to this business owner’s practices. Among those afflicted is Celebration Bots, a parody Facebook page exposing the questionable practices of Celebration Box, and airing the grievances of customers who were scammed and even threatened with legal action by the company’s representatives as well as personally by its founder, Iyia Liu.<\/p>\n

Ms. Liu built an empire based on misleading media coverage that presented her as the archetype of the cunning millennial businesswoman who managed to make millions out of her personal business before hitting her mid-twenties. However, extensive investigative journalism pieces<\/a> have shown that Ms. Liu has lied about almost the entirety of her career trajectory, concealing information and glossing over negative aspects of her financial status to maintain a “perfect” image that would keep her social media following in the dark and sustain her business models which are proven to be built on a house of cards. Ms. Liu carefully built her “Kiwi millionaire” backstory using a $300,000 sponsored post of Kylie Jenner wearing a waist trainer that Ms. Liu sold. However, her companies have all been described as “shell corporations”, and the mansion that is attributed to her wealth was connected as a beneficiary to an alleged property pyramid scheme, Future Living, which is run by her mother, Ms. Caroline Zhao.<\/p>\n

Recently, one of Ms. Liu’s businesses, Celebration Box, has come under fire for failing to deliver numerous orders worth thousands of dollars ever since the 2018 Father’s Day weekend. Celebration Box, which is a confectionary gift box service that delivers doughnuts and various types of candy to consumers across New Zealand, has also been repeatedly accused of late deliveries, missing items, and taking improper care of shipments, as customers have reported that they have received melted or stale goods, which often spent significant time in poorly ventilated and temperature-controlled shipping facilities prior to reaching their doorsteps.<\/p>\n

These kinds of online comments, however, have been the basis of a witch hunt personally led by Ms. Liu, who has deleted, blocked and attacked consumers, as well as the Celebration Bots page itself with inflammatory language and broad-ranging threats, showing little care of the impact of her actions on the outlook of her businesses, which, in addition to Celebration Box, recently saw the addition of the online clothing shop, Bambi Boutique.<\/p>\n

Celebration Bots NZ publicly declares its intention to continue to serve as a public platform for those looking to share their personal experiences with Ms. Liu’s businesses, as well as the at time abhorrent treatment both consumers and the page itself have received by representatives of Ms. Liu and Ms. Liu herself.<\/p>\n
