Wooten Plumbing and Brian Wooten have posted a list of helpful suggestions for preparing home and business plumbing systems for the cold winter weather that is common this time of the year. The Tulsa plumber<\/a> recommends doing some quick DIY preventive maintenance to avoid costly system failure. The information is a follow-up to the basic fall plumbing maintenance checklist provided by the company previously. The fall maintenance schedule consists of seven tasks to prepare the system ahead of the coldest season.<\/p>\n

The maintenance tasks include cleaning drains and gutters, inspecting the water heater and water heater pressure relief valve, checking for leaks and drips, insulating exposed pipes, storing garden hoses, shutting off outdoor faucets, and using the water shut off valve if traveling is in the plans. While these actions are important, there are some additional actions to be taken in further protection of the plumbing system.<\/p>\n

Burst pipes and the resulting damage is the second most-filed insurance claim in the country. The average cost of such claims is $10k each. Finally, don’t turn off the furnace if the home will be unoccupied during a vacation.<\/p>\n
