Gastric cancer<\/a> (GC) is known as one of the most commonly seen cancers nowadays. According to the histological classification Lauren, gastric cancer is classified into two distinct groups, i.e.<\/em> the intestinal and diffuse types.<\/p>\n

Recently another classification based upon mucin expression shows there are 4 types of gastric cancers: the gastric or foveolar type (G-type), the intestinal type (I-type), the gastric and intestinal mixed type (GI-type) and neither gastric nor intestinal phenotypes (N-type). Please note that in I-type gastric cancer, p53 mutations and allelic deletions of the adenomatous polyposis coli (APC) gene are observed more frequently than in G-type gastric carcinoma.
