S<\/span>chneider Electric and General Electric (GE) will establish four power control centres in Cairo and Alexandria after their bids were approved by the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The committee that assessed financial bids from different companies selected Schneider Electric to implement three power control centres in Cairo and GE to establish another one in Alexandria, an informed source told Daily News Egypt.<\/span><\/p>\n

The winning companies will implement the main control system and develop communication network to improve operational performance of power plants.<\/span><\/p>\n

The source explained that control centres are very important because they save energy, reduce costs, control parts of the electrical network, allow rapid dealing with emergencies, <\/span>reduce <\/span>untimely shutdowns, and optimise energy efficiency.<\/span><\/p>\n

The new control centres come within the framework of the ministry’s plan to develop and improve the public services to citizens according to the highest standards.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mohamed Shaker, said the sector needs the new control centres to develop and modernise electricity transmission and distribution networks so as to absorb the added capacities from new power projects.<\/span><\/p>\n

He explained that the future vision of the electricity sector is based on the transformation of the current network from a typical network to a smart one using modern technology and information system, and that there is interactivity between the operator and the consumer in order to manage energy demand and benefit from all available capabilities<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n
