Show dates\/times: October 6<\/span><span><span>th<\/span><\/span><span> 7:30pm; October 12<\/span><span><span>th<\/span><\/span><span> 4pm and 7pm. Moderated Q&amp;A&rsquo;s will follow each staged reading. She founded Conch Shell Productions (winner of Planet Connections Theater Festival Outstanding Production of a New Play Award) with one mission in mind: &nbsp;to develop, workshop and produce new plays and screenplays by writers of Caribbean heritage living in America who have an expanded view of reality.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\" dir=\"ltr\">Magaly believes that art can and should provoke social change and inspire audiences to redefine their reality to find new ways of thinking when presented with challenges.&nbsp;&nbsp;Conch Shell New Works Reading Series featured plays &ndash; &ldquo;Lucky&rdquo; by Haitian-American Barnard student playwright Phanesia Pharel&rsquo;s; &ldquo;Misfit, America: An American Western With Color&rdquo; by &nbsp;Puerto Rican American playwright Nelson Diaz-Marcano;&nbsp; and &ldquo;Destination Oooh, Aaah, Yummy&rdquo; by Magaly Colimon-Christopher &#8211; possess those unique qualities.&nbsp; Conch Shell New Works Reading Series is one of the events the production company produces to create a creative and unifying space for diverse audiences to explore and&nbsp;celebrate the unique ethnic\/cultural diversity of playwrights from the 28 multi-lingual Caribbean cultures that have immigrated to the Americas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\" dir=\"ltr\"><span>Conch Shell New Works Readings Series <\/span><span>is made possible (in part) by the 2020 Cycle 1 ARTNY Creative Space Grant<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\" dir=\"ltr\"><strong>ABOUT THE PLAYS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\" dir=\"ltr\"><span>Puerto Rican American&nbsp; playwright Nelson Diaz-Marcano&rsquo;s &ldquo;Misfit, America: An American Western with Color&rdquo; combines the magical realistic influences of Latin American literature with the Western genre popularized in the twentieth century to tell a tale that explores racism, the love that defines non-traditional family structures, and gender nonconformity. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\" dir=\"ltr\"><span>Haitian American playwright\/director Magaly Colimon-Christopher&rsquo;s &ldquo;Destination: Oooh Aaah Yummy&rdquo;
