Jamiya Wilson, one of the most talented portrait photographers based in New York City, is proud to announce today that, on January 31st, 2019, he will present his exhibition titled 100 Faces: Street Portraits by Jamiya Wilson at Rogue Space Chelsea. Admission to the event is free, however, attendees must hold tickets to enter, which they can get through here.
Wilson’s goal with the project is to get viewers to reflect on each individual depicted and consider their journey as well as the common humanity that connects us. As he states, “The constant hustle required for living in a place like New York City can make us somewhat oblivious or even dismissive to those around us. 100 Faces is my humble attempt to get people to stop for a moment and consider that stranger. They’re more than just another face in the crowd. But someone with hopes and dreams, family and friends; someone who has probably lived a life they’d never believe.”
The exhibition will feature 100 large black-and-white prints, showcasing each person in striking detail. Completely self-funded, the project reflects Wilson’s artistic sensibilities, passion for photography, and love for the people he photographs.
“I only spent a few minutes with each person, stopping to take 3-5 quick photographs. But once you get to know a person, even in passing, something changes. You hope things work out for them. You start to care. At least I did. Upon viewing these images, I hope viewers will feel the same.”
